Driving in the Slow Lane: The Practice of Rest
Today's blog will be brief.
Rest is a command from God. He gives us the Sabbath as a command to rest. To incorporate rest into our daily rhythms and routines.
You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but the seventh day must be a Sabbath day of complete rest, a holy day dedicated to the Lord. Anyone who works on the Sabbath must be put to death. -Exodus 31:15
“Keep my Sabbath days of rest, and show reverence toward my sanctuary. I am the Lord. -Leviticus 19:30
“Keep the Sabbath day holy. Don’t pursue your own interests on that day, but enjoy the Sabbath and speak of it with delight as the Lord’s holy day. Honor the Sabbath in everything you do on that day, and don’t follow your own desires or talk idly.
So, this week delight in this chapter on the practice of rest. Then take a day to do just that, REST. Turn off the screens, turn off the devices, unplug and rest. Delight in the Lord's presence while you rest from all your work and all the extracurriculars you may have yourself and your family signed up for.
